Only two of this list were making their overall first-class debut: Aslett and Sales.
And, 10 (was 9 before 2013) of the list made their first-class debuts overseas.
The two whose records have been broken this season are:
Middlesex: 132* DJ Malan v Northamptonshire at Uxbridge, 2008
Surrey: 155 JB Hobbs v Essex at The Oval, 1905
Given that first-class debuts are sometimes made against University sides, how many in the list were County Championship debuts by players who had not made their first-class debuts overseas? Perhaps it's still just Aslett and Sales?
ReplyDeleteBassano, Gallian, Shrewsbury (Played plenty cricket before CC began in 1890), Hobbs and Rudston were also on Championship debut. Crawley and Smith made CC debut for other teams.
